In June, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that St. Louis County received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2013 budget document. This marks the eighth consecutive year that the County has received this award.
This award reflects the commitment of the County Executive and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:
- A policy document
- A financial plan
- An operations guide
- A communications device
Budget documents are peer-reviewed, and must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.
The County’s 2013 budget can be viewed on the County’s website at http://www.stlouisco.com/YourGovernment/CountyDepartments/Budget.aspx. Any comments or questions regarding the budget can be directed to the Budget Office at firstname.lastname@example.org or (314) 615-7046.
